Future Term Dates
We all have very busy lives with lots of different things to keep track of. The school website has just been updated with future term dates for the next 2 years. You can now see the INSET Dates for 2026-27 and the Term Dates for 2027-28. Please note that the dates for 2027-28 do not yet incude INSET days.
The school year is made up of 195 days. Children are required to be in school for 190 days, with 5 days which are organised for training and development for school staff.
Governor Newsletter
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we move through a busy term, governors would like to thank pupils, staff and families for their continued support of the school community.
Firstly, we want to say a huge thank you to the Friends of Andoversford for their continued hard work in supporting the school. The recent Colour Run was a fantastic success and a wonderful event for the children, raising over £800 for the school. Thank you to everyone who helped organise and support the event.
As many of you will be aware, governors are currently progressing the recruitment process for a new Headteacher for September. This is an important responsibility for the Governing Board and we are committed to appointing the very best leader for the school’s next chapter. We will keep parents updated as soon as we have more news to share.
Recruitment is also underway to appoint a new teacher following Miss DW’s news that she will be leaving to take up a position at another school. We want to thank her for her valuable contribution to the school to date and wish her every success in her new role in September.
We were also very sorry to hear of Mrs Beaton’s recent diagnosis. She remains very much in the thoughts of staff, governors, pupils and families, and we send her our very best wishes for her upcoming treatment.
Finally, governors would like to thank all staff for their continued dedication and commitment to supporting every child during a particularly busy period for the school.
Please feel free to feedback with any comments or suggestions of what you would like to hear more about in these newsletters by contacting chair@andoversford.gloucs.sch.uk or if you’d like to become a governor and further support the school, please reach out to clerk@andoversford.gloucs.sch.uk
Kind regards,
Nicki Jarvis on behalf of the Full Governing Board
Oak Class News
Dear Oak Class Families,
I hope you have had a restorative break in the sun.
This half term we will be very busy in Oak Class. The children will be continuing their swimming lessons, along with ball games coaching, cricket coaching and some gymnasics sessions. I am sure it is going to be a very enjoyable and productive half term. However, there is a lot of different kits to remember! I have updated the 'What do I need today?' poster on the Oak Class webpage to help with this. I will also be happy to print out any copies of this, if you could just let me know.
Thank you for your support. Here's to a fun-filled half term!
Miss DW

Help Shape the Future of SEND Provision in Gloucestershire
More children and young people need specialist support than ever before. Demand for SEND places has risen significantly over the last decade, including in early years, mainstream schools and special schools.
To make sure we can meet these needs now and in the future, Gloucestershire County Council developed a new SEND Sufficiency Strategy for 2026–2031. The strategy sets out how they plan to ensure there are enough of the right types of provision, in the right places, at the right time.
Your views matter
Gloucestershire County Council have launched a public consultation on the strategy, and they want your views to help shape how specialist educational provision in Gloucestershire will look in the years ahead.

Ready, Set, Go! Sports Day this week!
This Friday, the weather is due to brighten up - just in time for Sports Day!
Children should wear PE kits to school. Remember to bring a water bottle as we will have a very active day. Depending on the weather, suncream, a sun hat - or school hoody and waterproof coat may all be needed.
This year, parents, carers, friends or family are invited from 11:00 to enjoy the events. Both gates will be open at 11:00 and the audience members will be welcomed in. The ground has been wet following the rain this week, so we do advise bringing a picnic blanket to sit comfortably on. Children may want to bring their coat out to use as a cushion in the afternoon too!
From 11:00 to lunchtime, we will be completing some fun events. The audience may need to move around the field to get the best view of the different classes. We are very pleased that so many family members are joining us for hotdogs at lunchtime this year! It will be a great opportunity to sit and eat together with your children.
After lunch, there will some traditional races - get ready to cheer on the sack race, egg and spoon and some fast sprinting! At this time, we kindly remind audience members to remain on the side of the track nearest the greenhouse. Children and families will not be permitted to cross the track during this time to keep everyone safe.
Please take plenty of photos of your own child to keep some precious memories. But we do remind visitors not to take images or videos of any other children and to remain mindful of e-safety guidance if you choose to share any images.
If any visitors arrive after the start time of 11, please be mindful that you may need to wait a few minutes for a member of staff to open the gates as we will be very busy. You can contact someone to let a member of staff know you have arrived if you cannot catch anyone's attention.

Staffing Update
We would like to share an upsetting update with the school community. Mrs Beaton, who supports many children across the school in her role as HLTA, has recently been diagnosed with B-Cell Lymphoma. This is type of cancer which requires intense treatment. Mrs Beaton will be starting her chemotherapy after half term. The staff team are all going to miss her and she is very much appreciated for all the things she does to help around school!
I know you will all want to express your kind wishes and positive thoughts. Please do share any messages, cards or gifts with one of the teachers or with the school office so that these can be passed on. The children know that Mrs Beaton is poorly and that she will soon be having some special medicine. Your child may want to talk more about this at home at an age appropriate level.
After half term, you may see some extra faces in the team as we will have some extra supply teachers or support staff working with us to help out. Get well soon Mrs Beaton!
Willow Class trip to Cheltenham Science Festival 2026
Dear Willow Class parents and carers,
We have been able to secure tickets for several events at Cheltenham Science Festival this year. We are pleased to let you know that we have organised for Willow Class to attend the festival on Thursday 4th June 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to further their scientific knowledge, be inspired at a national event and develop their understanding of topics covered in our science curriculum.
We have subsidised the cost of the visit and are asking for a voluntary contribution of £15 per child. This cost goes towards travel, the children attending two fantastic workshops, as well as access to the Discover Zone and other areas across the site. In an effort to become a ‘cashless’ school, payment should be made online via ParentPay. Please make your voluntary contribution or let us know if you do not wish to contribute by Thursdy 21st May 2026.
More information about workshops, payments and travel arrangements are detailed in the letter available on the website: Letters & Forms | Andoversford Primary School
