At Andoversford, we highly value the natural environment and have included Forest School in our curriculum. Spending time outside and getting in touch with nature has incredible mental health benefits - not to mention the superb social interactions.
In Forest School sessions, pupils get the opportunity to explore, play, take risks in a supported environment. It develops confidence and self-esteem through hands on experiences.
We also have an opportunity for play and exploration on our Wild Wednesday sessions. Every Wednesday lunchtime, the children from across the whole school have their break in the nature area and they can choose any activity they wish. It is a great to see how children interact in nature across the year groups.
Children need an Outdoor Learning kit for their Forest School and Wild Wednesday sessions. It is very important that arms and legs are covered to avoid small scratches and stings. When these areas are covered, children feel more comfortable in the area and can fully explore the environment.
Outdoor Learning Kit
- A long-sleeved t-shirt (appropriate for the weather)
- A pair of trousers/leggings
- A pair of wellington boots or sturdy shoes
- A waterproof coat with hood
- A pair of waterproof trousers
- A drawstring outdoor learning bag (separate to PE bag)
Outdoor Learning Clothing should reflect the weather conditions. In the winter waterproof trousers and wellies are recommended, but in the summer-time a light pair of leggings and long-sleeved T-shirt is much more comfortable.
