Y3/4 Residential

Beech Class Residential

In September 2022, Beech Class will be visiting Deer Park Girl Guiding HQ for our residential! Find out more about our destination here: https://www.deerparkcowley.com/

Day One Photos

We arrived at Deerpark Girl Guiding HQ in time to settle into our tents and have lunch. In the afternoon, we worked in two groups to take part in some fun activities. The first went Geocaching - where we have to use some electronic devices to follow a trail around the centre. Then we did Bushcraft skills - the best part was making a nettle bracelet and then drinking nettle tea. Not everybody enjoyed the taste though!

In the evening, we all worked together to chop the ingredients for our veggie bolognaise. Dinner was scrumptious and kept us warm as it got a bit colder. Next we had to prepare our bananas with chocolate and marshmallow so that they could be roasted on the campfire. What a great way to end the day!

Day Two photos

After a very chilly night's sleep, a bowl of porridge and a mug of hot chocolate was the perfect breakfast! We were very excited to hear about our final activities- archery and grass sledging! We especially enjoyed zooming down the hills on the grass sledges...

And just like that, it was time to pack up and leave our camp site, heading for home! The rain managed to hold off just until we began to carry our bags towards the coach- we ended up very soggy, but were glad we stayed dry until that point.

What a super couple of days!

Frequently Asked Questions

What time do we leave/arrive?
Children need to arrive in school at the normal time on Thursday 29th September 2022. You should come to the hall instead of the classroom to drop off your luggage. The coach will be leaving around 11:30  and parents are very welcome to come and wave us off!
On Friday 30th September, children will leave the centre after lunch and will arrive back at school ready for collection at the usual time.

Do we need a packed lunch?
Children need to bring a packed lunch for the first day. All other meals during the visit will be prepared and cooked by the children. All children must bring a labelled water bottle which can be re-filled.

What should we wear?
On the day of our departure, children do not need to wear school uniform and should wear weather-appropriate clothing which will be comfortable to wear to take part in outdoor activities! Details about what else should be brought can be found on the kit list below.
Can we wear jewellery?
Children can only wear a single pair of stud earrings. These should be able to be removed or covered for some activities. Some children may like to wear a watch, but they may be asked to remove it for some activities.

Can we bring deodorant?
No spray deodorants are permitted in the tents. Roll-on types are absolutely fine.

Can we bring sweets/money/phones/electrical items?
No. Sweets, drinks (other than water) and other food items are not permitted . Children do not need any money and must not bring electrical items. We do recommend a small teddy and books, travel games or similar for free periods.

What if my child has medical needs?
Please complete and return the Medical Information Form to the school so that we are aware of any additional needs. Any medicines that need to be administered must be handed to Miss Thomas. This might be easier the afternoon before we leave rather than in the morning. Children with asthma will need to carry an inhaler at all times and will not be permitted to take part in any activities without it.
