Wild Wednesday

11 March 2022 (by Rachel Bradley McKay (Head))

We love Wild Wednesday here at Andoversford. It is such a great opportunity for children to explore the natural environment and enjoy being outdoors. Children often make dens, climb trees, build with natural materials or generally explore the outdoors. All of this is fantastic for our mental  health and wellbeing. We also notice how well the older and younger children interact as part of these sessions.

On Wednesdays, children should be well-prepared for the weather so that they can make the most out of their session. It is not so much fun if you are avoiding certain areas because you don't have the correct clothing. All year round, children need to have long sleeves and covered legs. This could be a coat, pair of joggers, a jumper, or waterproof trousers depending on the weather and what your child likes to do. Some children like to roll around in the muddiest areas and may benefit from clothing on top of their uniform, but some children are perfectly happy in their school jumper or coat. Long sleeves help avoid stings and small scratches which can occur when exploring outdoors.

At the moment, the ground is still a bit soft and it is muddy in places. A change of footwear is advisable - but this could be some wellies, or just an old pair of trainers.
